In so many stories…

In Paradise, a Trojan horse of cursed knowledge

For Newton an inspiration unravelling gravity,

You’ve been the apple of so many eyes

But Snow White’s fall,

Today, you’re Apple’s logo

In every mind, on every phone

What about you, apple

Other fruits cannot be, give or do?

You’re not the sweetest, like mangoes

Nor the prettiest, like cherries

Certainly not as fragrant as bananas

And not as nutritious as berries

So why?

I here by make a guess…

That your shape

From the inserted stem in your bottomless pit

Up those slanted walls and down the sides

How they curve like fertile hips

Down and inwards

Like a long dress holding in shapely legs

And…the way you submit to a hand

Perfect to wrapping fingers

And how you resist, then give in

To teeth on flesh

This collapsing crunch

These flowing juices

Those rushing fragrances

All of these

I suggest

Is why
