The future or the past decides our present. The imagination with non existent correlates to the world is the lynchpin of free will. This I have come to realize. The definition of free will I am referring to is one in which an action in the present, as in right now, is determined by alternative constraints not in the present, but by things in the mind not having correlates to the present.
It follows, that the more imagination one has has, the more alternative paths one can envision and consider, the freeier we are. So working memory IS the place where free will exists, because it is where the alternative paths are held in limbo. turned over, rejected, replaced, and then decided on.
